A Carbon County woman who pleaded guilty to driving the get-away car during five armed robberies won’t be going anywhere for a while.
Crystal Serfass, 32, of Junedale, will instead be serving the 7 1/2-year federal prison term imposed on her by U.S. Middle Senior District Judge James M. Munley.
Serfass pleaded guilty to playing a part in the robberies of four banks and a Dollar General store, U.S. Attorney Bruce Brandler said Tuesday. Her co-defendant, 42-year-old David Weaver, is serving a 121-month prison term for threatening the victims with a pistol.
Between September 2013 and December 2014 the couple robbed Jim Thorpe National banks in Penn Forest Township, a National Penn Bank in Drums, an ESSA Bank in Brodheadsville, and a Dollar General in Nesquehoning, Brandler said. He said the holdups netted them about $22,000.
They were charged after an investigation by the FBI and the state police.
