Woman hit and killed by Kootenai County deputy identified
HAYDEN, Idaho -
A woman who was hit and killed by a Kootenai County deputy early Saturday morning has been identified Monday afternoon.
Idaho State Police report 38-year-old Amber E. Viuhkola of Hayden was struck and killed by a Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputy around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers say the deputy was headed southbound on Highway 95 near Miles Ave. when the crash happened.
Neighbors in the area told KHQ’s Katie Chen that they were shocked to hear about the crash because, while they’ve seen some pretty serious crashes on that highway before, one involving a pedestrian is rare.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing and ISP is still asking potential witnesses to contact them at (208) 209-8730.
