TUCSON, Ariz. » Quarterback Brandon Dawkins is expected to get the second start of his Arizona career against the University of Hawaii Saturday after the Wildcats announced today that veteran Anu Solomon is “questionable” with a knee injury.
Dawkins, a redshirt sophomore from Calif. made his starting debut last week against Grambling State when Solomon, a three-season starter and Davey O’Brien Award candidate was sidelined.
Solomon, a redshirt junior, was born in Hawaii and moved to Las Vegas in junior high. His father, Jarrett, was an all-state linebacker at Farrington in 1993.
Anu, who has started 26 games, suffered the knee injury last week in a midweek practice session and did not suit up against Grambling, wearing a brace on his left knee.
Dawkins is the more mobile of the two and ran for two touchdowns and 97 yards on 16 carries last week. He also passed for one touchdown.
The Wildcats (1-1) are listed as a 24.5-point favorite on Las Vegas betting lines.
Safety Tellas Jones is also listed as “questionable” and fullback Jamardre Cobb is listed as “out” with a knee injury.
