Where to get some answers to your health insurance questions

MaineHealth Learning Resource Center
The other day, I told you all about the MaineHealth Learning Resource Center. It has a website full of useful information, offers live chats with its health educators and hosts a number of classes in different locations.

The health educators field tons of questions. I asked one of them — Jean Gould — what their number one question is. Her answer: “We get many questions about health insurance coverage. Insurance can be confusing and is extremely important to people.”

Jean says questions range from:

  • I need new health coverage, where can I get it?
  • My husband lost his job and he carried our health insurance. Where can we find new coverage?
  • My husband is a veteran and will soon be retiring and using VA as his primary health care. I will not have a job right away as we are moving to a new area in Maine. How can I get health insurance for my son and myself if I don’t have a job?
  • I need to get a medical procedure done. How do I know if it’s covered?

She reassures people that “there is help out there!”

These are some of the more common resources she and the other health educators direct people to:

  • enroll207.com
  • Consumers for Affordable Health Care HelpLine: 1-800-965-7476
  • Maine Bureau of Insurance HelpLine: 1-800-300-5000
  • Health Insurance Marketplace: 1-800-318-2596

All of these resources and more can be found on the MaineHealth Resource Center’s Paying for your Care page.
