Victim critically wounded in Harrisburg shooting

HARRISBURG – An unidentified male victim is in critical condition after he was shot in Harrisburg Tuesday night.

The victim, age immediately unknown, was rushed into surgery after he was discovered with a gunshot wound to the thigh at the Harrisburg Park Apartments in south Harrisburg just after 7 p.m., said city police Lt. Laura Green.

The victim was shot somewhere north of the apartment complex, where he ran for help, Green said. A trail of bloody footprints led to an apartment building, where he was found. He ran a good distance for help, she said.

An off-duty Harrisburg police officer working security at the apartments saw the victim run to the apartment, Green said. The officer rushed over to help the victim, who was unconscious when emergency medical crews arrived, she said.

Police did not immediately have a suspect in custody.

Officers swarmed the scene and at 8:30 p.m. investigators continued to search the area, as neighbors watched on an unseasonably warm night.

The incident marks the second shooting in Harrisburg in less than 24 hours. A man was shot in the leg outside the Jazzland Bar, 1922 Walnut Street, around 11 p.m. Monday. The man was taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center and is expected to recover, police said.

Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to contact Harrisburg police via Dauphin County emergency dispatch at 717-558-6900.
