Two men were arrested on Saturday after authorities discovered a stolen, loaded firearm in a bag during a screening at Los Angeles International Airport, according to the Los Angeles Airport Police.
Officers responded to a call of a prohibited item at a TSA screening around 10:50 a.m. There, police found a carryon bag on the x-ray screening belt with a weapon inside.
A 39-year-old man who claimed ownership of the bag was detained, police said. It was later revealed that the bag, and the items inside, belonged to the man’s traveling companion who left the screening area and boarded an aircraft for departure.
Police detained the second man, a 53-year-old, who claimed ownership of the bag and gun after questioning.
Both men were arrested for possession of a stolen, loaded firearm and were transported to the LAPD Pacific Division Jail for booking.
