Twin Peaks “breastaurant” chain acquired by franchise group

Twin Peaks, the Dallas-based chain of sports bars featuring an outdoors lodge motif and waitresses dressed in short shorts and revealing flannel tops, has been sold to an Atlanta-based franchisee run by former Hooters executives.

One of a group of “breastaurants” — casual restaurants that promote their attractive young waitresses as much as their food — Twin Peaks has been growing fast since launching in Lewisville in 2005. The company now owns or franchises 78 restaurants in 25 states.

The company said Monday that it has agreed to sell a minority interest to Atlanta-based La Cima Restaurants, its largest franchise group, which owns and operates 15 Twin Peaks locations in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

According to its website, Twin Peaks has two locations in Fort Worth, one in Fossil Creek and the other along Southwest Loop 820. It also has restaurants in Addison, Dallas, Frisco, Lewisville, Mesquite, Irving and Plano.

Joe Hummel, currently La Cima’s chief operating officer, will become Twin Peaks CEO following a transition period, succeeding Starlette Johnson, who has been with the company for about a year. The Twin Peaks board will be chaired by founder Randy DeWitt.

“The process of re-energizing Twin Peaks is something we’ve all been working on and I’m excited for the chance to accelerate this process,” said Hummel. “The heart of the Twin Peaks experience has always been fun and hospitality, and I’m looking forward to working with the board and the team to bring new excitement into our restaurants.”

According to Nation’s Restaurant News, DeWitt is focused on Front Burner Restaurant Group, his emerging-concept company, which operates Velvet Taco and Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar.
