Three-and-Out: Bears starting safeties argue on the sideline

1. Sideline screams

Broadcast cameras caught Bears players separating strong safety Harold Jones-Quartey from a fiery exchange on the sideline with safety Adrian Amos.

It followed a blown coverage on the Colts’ first touchdown, where tight end Dwayne Allen was left wide open on a fourth-down play on the goal line.

Amos was the closet to Allen. He said the Colts’ play fake led to confusion. Jones-Quartey covered tight end Jack Doyle in the flat.

“Football is a very emotional game,” Jones-Quartey said. “When we’re all in the action, we can get emotional and make wrong decisions and make wrong choices in the heat of an emotional game. That’s what that was.”

Coach John Fox said replacing Jones-Quartey with veteran Chris Prosinski in nickel situations was a performance-based decision. Jones-Quartey said it was practiced that way throughout last week.

2. The sack attack

Similar to other teams, the Bears pummeled Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, sacking him five times after entering the game with only six this season.

Outside linebacker Willie Young had three. Akiem Hicks and Jonathan Bullard also had sacks.

But no team protects their quarterback worse than the Colts. It’s actually quite embarrassing what’s happening, considering how good Luck, the No. 1 overall pick in 2012, could be with just adequate protection. He’s been sacked 20 times this year.

3. Danny returns

Linebacker Danny Trevathan returned after right thumb surgery. He played with a cast on his hand and made six tackles.

“It ain’t comfortable at all,” Trevathan said. “But this is the game of football. You ain’t never going to be 100 percent. I just wanted to let this team know and Bears country know that I’m here to stay.”
