Teen killed in overnight crash in Alpine Township


ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators in Kent County say a 16-year-old died in a crash late Saturday night.

It happened at Fruit Ridge Avenue and 6 Mile Road around 10:45 pm. Kent County Dispatch said a 19-year-old driving a GMC Yukon failed to stop a stop sign. There were 4 people inside that SUV. The driver hit a 2008 Jeep traveling down Fruit Ridge Avenue. The 16-year-old passenger inside the Yukon who was not wearing a seat belt was thrown from the vehicle. She died at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was pulled from her vehicle. She was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital for life-threatening injuries.

Emergency crews took everyone else in the crash to Spectrum Butterworth, and Devos Children’s Hospital. They’re all expected to survive. The crash is under investigation.
