Suspects Sought in String of Santa Clarita Grocery Store Wallet Thefts: Sheriff

Deputies are looking for two women accused of stealing shoppers’ wallets in Santa Clarita, authorities said Friday.

Suspected wallet thieves are shown in surveillance images released by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department on Sept. 16, 2016.

The thieves are targeting people who leave their purse in their shopping cart, waiting until victims’ backs are turned, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said three such thefts were reported at a popular grocery store in the 26500 block of Bouquet Canyon Road on Sept. 4, and the stolen credit cards were immediately used at the Target on Golden Valley Road to purchase prepaid gift cards.

Deputies described one suspect as a black female between 25 and 35 years old weighing around 200 pounds. She was seen leaving the store in a small red vehicle, possibly a Honda Fit or Toyota Matrix, and appeared to have a tattoo inside her left forearm.

The second suspect is a Hispanic female, also between 25 and 35 years old and weighing around 190 pounds, they said.

Sheriff’s Detective Jason Jones warned shoppers not to leave their handbags unattended, and especially not to leave them unzipped.

Anyone with information on the suspects can contact Jones at 661-255-1121 ext. 5811.
