State Rep. Rob Matzie is calling on the Ambridge Area School Board to cancel school if it does not call off Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s appearance, according to The Beaver County Times.
Trump is scheduled to speak at a rally at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Ambridge Area Senior High School.
According to the report, Matzie said late Friday, “The safety of kids should be paramount. I just don’t believe the safety … and well-being of her or anybody else in that building is guaranteed, and it saddens me.”
The Times reported:
Unlike many other districts that are closed on Columbus Day, Ambridge Area will hold class Monday, but dismiss high school students 30 minutes early at 2 p.m. Doors to the Trump rally open at noon and he is expected to take the stage at 3:30 p.m.
Before the tape was released, Matzie expressed additional worries about parking and traffic, citing the influx of visitors to the high school when class is being held and the congestion already on construction-laden Route 65.
