Spokane mom says man jumped into yard, tried to grab son
SPOKANE, Wash. -
It’s every parent’s worst nightmare – your child getting taken from your own home by a total stranger. A Spokane mom says that almost happened to her and her 5-year-old son Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Heather, the mom, says this happened in the area of South Riverton and Stone.
“This man comes out of nowhere and hurdles this fence. He comes toward my son. He’s making a beeline for my son,” she says.
Her security cameras caught this man on video and it’s something still worrying her now.
“If I wouldn’t have been standing there my son might be gone,” she says.
She was inside her house while her boy was playing in the backyard. She then heard her son talking to someone. That’s when she noticed her son ran to the tree fort and her instincts kicked in.
The video shows the stranger hopping the fence, and as soon as Heather starts yelling anything and everything at the guy, he turns around and runs off. While his intentions aren’t entirely clear if you’re just watching the video, it’s crystal clear for Heather.
“To me, it was a man on a mission,” she says.
Now she hopes other parents will watch out too.
“You it’s not going to be you. I thought it wouldn’t be me. I thought somebody wouldn’t come in my yard in do that,” she says.
Heather reported the case the Crime Check and Spokane Police are looking into the report. She says the man was thin and around 6’2”.
