CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A special memorial and parade in Cascade Township Thursday night honored firefighters who died in the last year.

A bell was rung as representatives from local fire departments announced the names of late firefighters from their area.

Firetrucks then lined 28th Street for the silent parade starting at the Cascade library. Each truck drove in silence, with only its lights on.

“We could go out on a call tonight and somebody could pass away. Each call is different. You never know what you’re going to get into. It can change momentarily,” Cascade Township Fire Chief John Sigg said. “When you see a firefighter at an accident scene or doing something, slow down, pull over or think of them if they’re working out there. Just know that they’re out there protecting the country and trying to make everyone safe, as safe as possible for everybody.”

Local fire departments have been hosting the Silent Night Firefighter’s Memorial Service and Parade annually since 2001.
