Seven interesting observations about the 2016 school report cards

The state Department of Education released the 2016 school report cards for Pennsylvania’s public schools which assign academic performance scores that are based on indicators that the department uses to define a high performing school.

Fifty percent of the scores are based on standardized test performance; 40 percent is based on the year-over-year academic progress students have made, and the remaining 10 percent are based on such indicators as graduation rate, promotion rate and attendance rates.

Schools also earn up to 7 extra credit points for advanced performance on state and industry assessments, as well as for students earning a 3 or higher on an Advanced Placement exam or 4 or higher on an International Baccalaureate exam.

Reviewing the scores for schools all across the state, the following slides highlight some of the highest performers, lowest performers, and other interesting findings.
