DETROIT (WOOD) — The Detroit Red Wings are saying goodbye to the Joe Louis Arena.
This is their last season at the Joe, which they have called home for more than three decades. They’ll move into the new, state-of-the-art Little Caesars Arena, which is still under construction, next season.
Before their home opener Monday against the Ottawa Senators, they played a goodbye video narrated by Michigan native Jeff Daniels. That video was also posted on their Twitter account.
“Growing up here, too, coming to games and watching on TV and knowing the legends that have played here, it’s special and we have an opportunity to close it out and do it the right way, so hopefully that’s what we’ll do,” Wings forward Luke Glendening, an East Grand Rapids native, told 24 Hour News 8 last week.
The Wings beat the Senators 5-1 Monday night.
