The Paralympic Games in Rio have just wrapped up and Team USA won big, including one athlete from Spokane who’s making the Lilac City proud.
Rachael Morrison is returning from Rio with a gold medal. She broke her own world record for discus throw.
“Ecstatic about the event and the result of the event,” Morrison says. “It’s always really fun to set a new record. That never changes.”
Friends lined the Spokane Airport Sunday afternoon waiting for her flight to arrive. They had posters, balloons, and bells in hand, anxiously waiting to show they’re proud of her.
Morrison’s always been an athlete, but in 2012, she was paralyzed by a condition called transverse myelitis. She didn’t let that stop her though. She continued to play sports, and will continue challenging herself.
“I really like to keep getting stronger, throw farther and see how far I can go with it,” she says.
Her victories are clearly an inspiration to those around her.
