One person died Friday afternoon, along with about 100 pigs, in a crash involving two tractor-trailers in western Perry County, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at about 2:15 p.m. along Fort Robinson Road, also known as Route 850, in Northeast Madison Township, state police said.
The victim was identified as George M. Elser, 67, of Hancock, Maryland, according to Coroner Michael Shalonis.
Elser was traveling eastbound along Route 850 when his tractor-trailer collided with the tractor-trailer being driven westbound by Bryan Beaver, 26, of Trout Run, Lycoming County, police said.
Shalonis said Beaver’s rig was carrying anywhere from 250-400 pigs that were about 35 pounds each. Police did not say what Elser was hauling.
Police said Beaver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but suffered no apparent injuries.
Investigators said it was unclear if Elser was wearing a seatbelt.
Shalonis said the roadway was closed until about midnight.
Police said they are continuing to investigate the crash and did not provide further information.
