In reference to Thomas Likos comment, I would like to add the additional information on the matter so the public may be more fully informed.
I just spoke with the owner of the property, June Moore who was also charged. She said HHS showed up at 0600 a.m. with a police swat team, who cut the locks on their gate and charged in brandishing M16 rifles while they were all asleep. Lanny Moore heard the dogs barking and got up to quiet them down when several swat team members yelled ” Get down on the ground now”. Lanny of course complied peacefully, Lanny an unarmed 60 year old male, was charged with 2nd degree animal cruelty, a gross misdemeanor ,placed in custody and taken from the shelter at the end of the raid.. His 80 year old mother June was also charged, but not taken into custody, as she is the caretaker for her husband and Lanny’s father who suffers from Alzheimer’s and has other health issues. While HHS personnel took the majority of the dogs from the shelter, a few local police officers from the Waianae area familiar with the Moores stood by with them while all this was going on and thanked them for all that they had done for the community over the many years. I will be personally donating $500.00 to assist the Moores with their legal issues and will offer further support if needed. All the animals that were taken from shelter are currently housed in small crates under at tent at HHS. And none of them are available for adoption until their “investigation”. is finished. People on the Waianae Coast have taken unwanted, injured, and sick animals to Friends for Life because the understood the alternative, euthanasia at the HHS, which is a death sentence for any animal that is less than perfect.
