A man was injured during an officer involved shooting in Wilmington, Long Beach Police officials said Friday.
The incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. near 1700 North Marine Avenue, Long Beach Police Sgt. Brad Johnson said.
A man was shot and is in unknown condition.
No officers were injured during the incident, Johnson said.
Several streets in the area are shut down as police investigate the incident.
A man and woman who identified themselves as the brother and sister-in-law of the man who was shot, said the man was heading to a police station to turn himself in for a probation violation when he was struck by a police vehicle and was eventually shot by police. It is unclear, however, what led up to the shooting.
They were on their way to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance where the man is hospitalized.
At the scene, a white sedan remained crashed against a brick wall in the front yard of a nearby home.
