A man has been charged with killing a 79-year-old woman in a two-vehicle crash in Perry County last year, state police said.
On Tuesday, Zachary Ross Martin, 40, of the 1900 block of Newport Road in Wheatfield Township, was charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and several other charges for the June 3, 2015 crash that killed Vivian A. Cooper, of Millersburg, police said.
The accident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. along the 3000 block of Shermans Valley Road in Tyrone Township, also known as Route 274, police said.
Investigators said Martin was traveling west in his 2008 Hyundai Sonata when he “left his lane, traveling entirely into the eastbound lane where he struck a 2003 Jeep Liberty” that was being operated by Copper.
Police did not say why Martin drove into the other lane.
Two passengers in the Jeep with Cooper, Linda Stoltzfus, 55, and Verna Stolzfus, 23, both of Millersburg, each suffered “serious injuries” in the crash, police said.
Martis has also been charged with two counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, carless driving and reckless driving.
He is being held in the Perry County Prison on $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 14.
