Join the Bangor Historical Society on Thursday, October 20 at 6pm for the second in our Fall/Winter Series focusing on Maine in the Civil War.
Story continues below advertisement.
In this session, Civil War Historian, author and journalist Brian Swartz shares the story of an unsund hero, Colonel Charles Tilden.
The son of a Castine merchant, Charles W. Tilden fought with the Bangor-affiliated 2nd Maine Infantry Regiment and later commanded the 16th Maine Infantry during its annihilation at Gettysburg. Displaying skills that would make Houdini proud, Tilden twice escaped captivity and returned to fight for his country.
The Maine in the Civil War series is held in the historic Isaac Farrar Mansion at 166 Union Street. Call 942-1900 or visit www.bangorhistoricalsociety.org for more information.
