Hawaii’s loss at Long Beach State on Saturday had the Rainbow Wahine dropping 10 spots in today’s NCAA Women’s Volleyball Ratings Percentage Index.
Hawaii (12-5, 5-1 Big West) went from 21 to 31. The win over the Wahine didn’t help Long Beach State (12-7, 6-0), the 49ers dropping from 51 to 53 after a week that also included a victory over UC Riverside (RPI 270 last week).
Wisconsin (14-1), which defeated Hawaii in the season opener, remained No. 1. The Badgers (14-1) also moved up to No. 1 in today’s AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll while the Wahine fell five spots to No. 17.
The RPI is a computer-generated ranking based on a team’s record and its strength of schedule. The RPI is used to help seed teams in the postseason.
The formula uses winning percentage (25 percent), opponents’ winning percentage (50 percent) and the winning percentage of opponents’ opponents (25 percent). It also gives bonuses and penalties for wins over top-50 teams and losses to teams ranked 285-309 in the first RPI.
The top 16 in the RPI have the opportunity to host the first and second rounds if they put in a bid to host. This season, there are no predetermined regional sites, so the highest remaining seed in each region will host one of the four regionals.
