Kidd’s Kids Day 25th anniversary is Tuesday

Back in 1990, Kidd Kraddick made a deal with God.

Before his daughter, Caroline, was born, doctors told Kraddick and his then-wife, Carol, that their baby could be born with a twisted femur, leaving her unable to walk. Kraddick prayed that she would be born healthy, striking a deal with God that if she was, he would use his radio show to help other kids.

Caroline was born healthy, and in 1991 her father founded Kidd’s Kids, which takes qualifying children and their families on a trip to Disney World each year.

After Kraddick, whose real name was David Cradick, died unexpectedly on July 27, 2013, Caroline Kraddick became the director of the Kraddick Foundation. Kidd’s Kids celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and on Tuesday, the charity will celebrate Kidd’s Kids Day — the big fund-raising day in which what is now known as the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show devotes its four hours to raising money for the trip.

The cast — Kellie Rasberry, Big Al Mack, Jose “J-Si” Chavez and Jenna Owens — will devote their airtime to celebrating 25 years of Kidd’s Kids while educating listeners about The Kraddick Foundation and asking for their financial support. The audience will hear from children and families that are attending this year’s trip and many others who have experienced previous trips, according to a release.

“Kidd’s Kids Day is always one of my favorite days of the year, but it’s incredibly surreal to think we’re marking our 25th anniversary this year,” Caroline Kraddick, who now serves as CEO and Chief Happiness Officer of her late father’s foundation, says in the releae. “This trip is an amazing testament to my dad’s legacy, and I know he’d be overcome with joy to see how Kidd’s Kids has continued to flourish since he left us.”

This year’s trip is scheduled for Nov. 17-21. Listeners may support Kidd’s Kids Day through donations via the Kidd’s Kids website, KiddsKids.com; through the Southwest Airlines Kidd’s Kids Day Donation Hotline 888-792-5439/888-SWA-KIDZ from 6 a.m. to noon Central Time or by texting “KIDD” to “52000” to donate $10. More than 60 Southwest employees will volunteer their time to man the phone lines during the morning telethon. Southwest Airlines provides the call center and all the airfare for the trip.

Listeners may donate in-person at Nebraska Furniture Mart in the Colony from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, and all day at more than 120 participating Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers restaurants nationwide. Raising Cane’s will also donate 15 percent of its sales on Oct. 18.

In addition, personalities from KHKS/106.1 FM “KISS-FM,” which airs the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show in DFW, will be at Nebraska Furniture Mart and a Raising Cane’s on University Drive in Fort Worth, Collins Street in Arlington, and locations in Dallas, Richardson and Rowleet. 106.1 KISS FM. Donors may register to win two VIP tickets to the 106.1 KISS FM Jingle Ball 2016.
