Kansas State Students Post Snapchat in Blackface, Get Expelled

A duo of Kansas State University students have been expelled after wearing blackface in a Snapchat post Sept. 13.

According to KSNT, the fiasco started when students Sadie Meier and Paige Shoemaker shared a Snapchat of themselves in a beauty mask.

At the bottom of the post, the two captioned the image: “Feels good to finally be a N—.”

The image spread like wildfire. Eventually, it made its way to Facebook and students from KSU got hold to it.

But, the two women tells reporters that they did not mean anything by the post.

“We want people to know this is not blackface. We did not paint our faces intentional,” says Paige Shoemaker. “I mean, not that this is a good thing … that word kind of happens in our friend group. Because, we know that everyone is calm. We’re a big family so that word does not offend anyone in our group.”

After it went viral, a KSU student made the school’s president aware of the derogatory post.

Subsequently, the two women were expelled.

“In this era, why do we need to keep educating people on a university that’s diverse,” Kansas State student, Lani Sandoval asks. “Do you know what I mean? There’s no reason to keep educating people …”
