KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo city leaders are expected to release how they plan to use a $70.3 million donation Tuesday morning.
The memorandum of understanding between the city and donors will be made public on the city’s website, according to city officials.
Since the donation was announced in July, there have been discussions about possibly using it to create the Foundation for Excellence.
If approved, the foundation would eliminate the city’s deficit, fund key investments and improvements like roads, parks and youth programs, and cut property taxes for residents by more than 37 percent.
However, residents have expressed concerns about whether the donors will have control of how the money is spent and lack of information online to help break down how the foundation will actually work.
24 Hour News 8 will be monitoring the city’s website and will provide an update as soon as the plan for the donation is released.
