WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (WTVD) —
Hurricane and Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the North Carolina coast as Hurricane Matthew brought heavy rains and intense winds Saturday morning.
In Southport residents and businesses owners have boarded up and are ready for Hurricane Matthew.

Flooding is the major concern as heavy rain and strong wind gusts have already arrived. Some roads in certain sections are also closed due to high water.

Three shelters are open in Brunswick County for residents. Locals say it’s a wait and watch game to see how much rain they get throughout the day. As an extra precaution schools in Brunswick County are closed on Monday.
