Harrisburg police respond to shooting near Hamilton Elementary School

Police in Harrisburg are seeking a gunman after a man reportedly was shot near an elementary school around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

According to dispatches, the shooting occurred in the 600 block of Dauphin Street near the Hamilton Elementary School. Staffers were ushering the children back into the building.

A dispatcher said a caller reported seeing a man walk out of a house and shoot the victim, another man, in the right side. The shooter, described as a black man wearing jeans and a white shirt, ran away, according to dispatches.

Someone in a white car then picked up the victim, who was near the school, and drove away, a dispatcher said.

Reporter Eric Veronikis is at the scene and says there are about eight officers in front of a row home in the block and another five in back. Follow him on Twitter @everonikis.
