GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) –- Leaders at Grand Rapids Public Schools are inviting the community to a free event Wednesday celebrating the district’s $10 million grant.
In September, the XQ Super School Project awarded the money to Grand Rapids Public Museum School and nine other schools nationwide.
GRPS officials plan to use the money to renovate the former public museum on Jefferson and transform it into the district’s newest high school.
A public celebration will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. outside the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
During the first hour, city commissioners will meet with GRPS board members. The joint meeting will include a ceremonial passing of the key.
Starting at 11:30 a.m., there will be live entertainment, free food, and giveaways.
Grand Rapids Public Museum School is one of nearly 700 schools that applied to be an XQ Super School.
