A 16-year-old girl was fatally struck while walking across a street in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood of South Los Angeles Monday morning, authorities said.
The girl was jaywalking on Broadway between 104th and 105th streets when she was struck by a red Jeep, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The victim, whose identification was found in her backpack, died at the scene, the spokesperson said.
The girl’s name was not released, but authorities said she was 16 years old.
Investigators do not believe the Jeep was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the girl.
The man driving the Jeep did stop and was cooperating with authorities, the spokesperson said.
Video from the scene showed police tape set up near a canopy, which covered the body of the victim.
Slick roads and dark conditions may have been a factor in the crash, the spokesperson said.
