A garage owner accused of running a vehicle inspection fraud has been charged with engaging in deceptive business practices, Susquehanna Regional Police said Friday.
They said the investigation of Shawn P. McGrew, 48, of Marietta, began in February after Officer David Clancy III stopped a truck for numerous equipment violations.
The probe determined that McGrew, owner of the Under the Hood garage in Marietta, was falsifying inspection documents and was certifying customers’ vehicles as being road safe after not inspecting them properly, if at all, police said.
McGrew also is accused of conducting consignment sales without a license and police said his garage was in a hazardous disarray that endangered customers and neighbors.
Charges filed against McGrew include perjury, records tampering, deceptive business practices and providing inspection certificates without proof of insurance.
