SHERWOOD, AR (KARK/CNN) – A family photo in which an Arkansas man is wearing a Black Lives Matter-inspired shirt has gone viral.
Vic Roy and his wife, Brandi, designed a shirt with the words “My life matters to my squad.” Roy’s squad includes his wife, seven-year-old daughter Kayleigh and two-month-old twin girls.
The shirt’s slogan was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, which was created as a response to anti-black racism and in particular killings of black people by police.
“There’s a lot of things that are going on that are just not right,” Vic Roy said.
Brandi Roy says she gets concerned every time her husband leaves the house.
“If he gets pulled over,” she said, “just do as they ask so that he can come home safely.”
After the Roys’ photo of Vic and his daughters with squad shirts garnered more than a million likes, Roy realized there was a call for these shirts. He and his wife are now printing shirts in their living room.
Vic Roy says he hopes his shirts can contribute to a discussion of the Black Lives Matter movement and racism in the U.S.
