Rescue divers recovered a body in Benbrook Lake on Thursday morning that is believed to be that of a 16-year-old boy who went missing the evening before while swimming.
A possible drowning was reported at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the lake on the southwest edge of Fort Worth, according to MedStar, Fort Worth’s ambulance provider. Fort Worth and Benbrook firefighters and police began to search, but the boy was not found before the sun went down.
Officer Jimmy Pollozani, a Fort Worth police spokesman, said the teen was swimming about 200 yards south of a boat ramp and was seen going under and did not resurface.
Firefighters resumed the search at 9 a.m. Thursday and found the body about 50 feet from the lake’s shore about an hour later, said Lt. Kyle Falkner, spokesman for the Fort Worth Fire Department.
