Dallas police investigating officer-involved shooting

A Dallas police officer was shot shortly before 7 p.m. Friday while working on an unrelated call, but his injury was not considered life threatening.

Police were working a property investigation in the 300 block of East Brownlee Avenue in south Dallas when an officer saw a shooting, according to Deputy Chief Thomas Castro, a Dallas police spokesman.

The officer confronted the gunman and was fired upon and returned fire, striking the suspect, Castro said during a press conference at the scene at about 9 p.m. Three men were taken to the hospital, as was the officer, who was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Castro said.

Castro declined to take any questions at the press conference, saying the investigation was ongoing.
