BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Information Security Professionals is a group that started in February of this year by two local cybersecurity experts, Cory Cavanagh and Sam Gaudet, to bring together cybersecurity talent from local hospitals, banks, universities, and industry.
The group discusses strategies to defend against the evolving cyber threat as well as to present on projects or original research they are working on.

During October, which is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the group is looking to give back to the community by shifting its focus to provide the general public a platform to learn about security and ask a group of experts.
Instead of talking about advanced technological concepts, the October workshop will be tailored to people who don’t live and breathe security. The free workshop will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at G Clifton Bangor Savings, 203 Maine Ave.
Talks will include email security and social engineering, password management, banking fraud and defenses, and a primer on computer backups. There will be an open questions and answers panel where audience members can come and ask a group of cybersecurity experts anything.
Light catering will be provided.
