An University City Charlotte, North Carolina man, identified as Keith Lamont Scott was shot around 4 p.m. today.
FOX 46 reports that police arrived at an apartment complex searching for a man with outstanding warrants.
However, officers approached Scott instead when they reportedly saw him exit his vehicle with a firearm.
The victim’s brother told Fox 46 that the motorist was reading a book while waiting for his son to be dropped off from school before officers approached him.
Officers were confident the man was armed and posed a serious threat to them.
According to the initial police report, Scott got out of his vehicle with a gun and then got back in.
“The subject got out of the vehicle armed with a firearm and posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers who subsequently fired their weapon striking the subject,” per a CMPD news release.
Scott died shortly after arriving at Carolinas Medical Center.
Facebook user Lyric Scott recorded the incident as it happened.
In the hour long video, Lyric Scott claims to be the victim’s daughter. She told her followers that her father did not have a gun and was disabled.
