FREMONT, Mich. (WOOD) — Newaygo County authorities are warning consumers and businesses to watch out for fake money that’s circulating in another community.

Fremont is the fifth city in four months where movie prop money has been passed off as real cash. Norton Shores reported the counterfeit money in July; a month later, Grand Rapids police warned city residents about the bogus bills, followed by Kalamazoo and Battle Creek officers in September. So far, no arrests have been reported.

The fake $20 bills resemble real money, except “FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY” is printed on both sides of the counterfeit cash.

Customers who encounter a fake bill should alert the cashier before leaving the counter if possible. If necessary, contact police.
