Body of missing Post Falls hunter, Edward Hempel, found
KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho -
Authorities have confirmed the body of 63-year-old Edward Hempel has been located.
Wednesday evening, a helicopter participating in the search found Hempel’s body on the face of a cliff, about a 1/2 mile from the point he was last seen. Due to nightfall, searchers had to wait until Thursday morning to recover the body.
A helicopter from Flathead County, Two-Bear Air, was requested to assist due to their specialized equipment and training. They arrived to the scene at daybreak this morning and successfully recovered the remains from the hillside. They delivered the body to a Sheriff’s marine unit at the base of the mountain along the shoreline of Lake Pend Oreille.
Hempel was out hunting with his friend on Monday near Bernard Peak in Kootenai County backcountry, and they split up, but agreed to meet back up at 3 p.m. But Hempel didn’t show up.
The Sheriff’s Office expresses our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Hempel and offers gratitude to the dedicated searchers that aided in his recovery.
