Blue Hill man dies in car crash

BLUE HILL, Maine — A local man died Monday when a sport utility vehicle he was driving crashed on Route 176, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

George L. Crosby, 67, was not wearing a seat belt when the 1996 Ford Explorer he was driving careened off the road at approximately 7:30 p.m., the sheriff’s department indicated in a prepared statement.

The SUV was headed south on the highway, known locally as East Blue Hill Road, when it went off the road on a curve, causing the vehicle to roll onto its driver’s side. When emergency responders arrived, they quickly determined that Crosby, the only person in the SUV, was dead as a result of injuries he received in the crash.

Peninsula Ambulance and Blue Hill Fire Department assisted Deputy Jacob Day and Chief Deputy Patrick Kane at the crash scene. The crash remains under investigation.
