Take note of how you are sitting or standing right now; are you leaning forward, shoulders hunched? There is a relatively high chance that you are, especially if you happen to be sitting at a computer, texting messages on your Smartphone, playing video games or watching movies on a tablet.
If you work at a computer, or anything with a video screen, for long hours at a time you probably become so engaged in what you are doing that you end up hunched up over your keyboard or screen, shoulders rounded, head jutting forward. The thing about good posture is that it does not just look better, it is also better for your body if you work to hold your posture in a healthy alignment.
What are the best exercise to correct rounded shoulders and to have a better posture? Discover the answer by coming to Advanced Certified Professional Fitness Instructor Robin Maginn’s Rounded Shoulders workshop on October 24 at 9:15 a.m. at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta. Learn exercises that will help strengthen the upper back, neck and shoulders. All of these exercises and stretches deal with the muscles that are directly responsible for the problem of shoulders hunching forward. More often than not, poor posture is due to a combination of both weak and tight muscles, so both stretching and strengthening are important for improving posture. Robin’s better posture, rounded shoulders no more has both. Fee: $10. To register call 563-1363.
