A fatal crash on the 605 Freeway in Santa Fe Springs forced the closure of all southbound lanes Tuesday morning.
The initial incident was reported as a solo vehicle crash on the southbound 605 Freeway just north of the 5 Freeway transition, according to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident website.
Multiple collisions, involving at least four more vehicles, were reported in the next few minutes, according to the CHP.
Video from the scene showed at least one of the vehicle fully engulfed in flames..
At least one person involved in the crashes died at the scene, according to the CHP.
Officials issued a SigAlert just before 4 a.m. for the closure of all southbound lanes.
Southbound traffic was being diverted off the freeway at Telegraph Road.
The southbound lanes of the freeway were expected to remain closed until about 8:30 a.m., the CHP stated.
